The Seattle Seahawks cut down their roster to 53 players as they appear set on building up their youth movement. Although the Seahawks have plenty of solid veterans 29 players on the roster are 25 years old or younger. The team snuck into the playoffs last season with a 7-9 record but appear set to build from the ground up starting in 2011.

The Seahawks released 20 players on Saturday, waived/injured one, placed three on injured reserve and placed another three on reserve/PUP. The reserve/PUP players are ineligible to play for the first six weeks of the season, while the injured reserve players are finished for the season. John Carlson is a tough injury loss as he and Zach Miller could have made a fairly devastating duo at tight end. With a young QB like Tarvaris Jackson, two tight ends could have really helped. Not to say Miller is not solid on his own, of course.
The folks at Field Gulls were not wildly surprised by the roster moves as even a cut like Colin Cole can be ascribed to salary concerns. While the Seahawks are now down to 53 players, it would not be surprising to see them make a move or two via the waiver wire or free agency. it's doubtful this is the absolutely final 53-man roster heading into the season.
