Peyton Manning has managed to parlay a career as a pitch man into a starting job for the Indianapolis Colts, and at his stage in his career, he appears headed to the Hall of Fame. Wednesday, we learned that an injury will prevent Manning from starting Week 1 of the 2011 season, ending a consecutive-starts streak that extends all the way back to 1998.

However, Manning isn’t the only Colt to have thrown a pass during his 13-year career. How does he stack up against the 10 other Colts who have thrown the ball behind scrimmage? Please see these important charts:
Peyton Manning has thrown for so many yards that Brock Huard’s 22 yards don’t even show up on the graph! According to this chart, Manning literally has a cannon for an arm.
Jim Sorgi tossed a few touchdown passes, but nowhere near as many as Manning's 399. In fact, Manning has thrown for more touchdowns than the rest of these players combined!
But this is where things get really interesting.
Manning's career quarterback rating of 94.4 is impressive, but it's no match for Joseph Addai and Ken Dilger, who both hold career QB ratings of 158.3. Addai's number results from his lone passing attempt in 2009, which was a 22-yard touchdown strike.
Unfortunately I did not see Joseph Addai throw that pass, but just from looking at him you can tell he’s really strong. My hunch is that he can throw the ball really far and hard on account of how strong he is.
Overall, though, I still think that Peyton Manning is probably the best quarterback. The secret to being a good quarterback is to throw the ball incredibly hard, and that’s what he’s done, year in and year out.
