Tampa Bay Buccaneers First Home Game To Be Blacked Out

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday will be blacked out. The Bucs had until Thursday afternoon to sell the remaining tickets available, which they couldn't do, so the game will be blacked outlocally.

The Bucs are a team on the rise winning 10 games last year and they have a very young team that will be competing this year. Since they already have a good team, it makes you wonder if all their games will be blacked out again this year.

Pewter Report suggests that there are two main possibilities for a non-blackout.

In fact, none of the 2011 home games have been announced by the team as sold out, but PewterReport.com has learned that the best chances of any home sellouts would occur for the Indianapolis Colts game on ESPN's Monday Night Football on October 3 and the December 17 game against Dallas on NFL Network's Saturday Night Football.

The league’s blackout rules maintains that a game must be sold out before it’s broadcast locally. Basically, it’s a way for the league to encourage fans to buy tickets to the game instead of staying home and watching it. In Tampa Bay, the strategy hasn’t worked.
