NFC Divisional Playoffs: Turnovers Are Key For 49ers, Saints

The San Francisco 49ers will host the New Orleans Saints in the 2012 NFC divisional round game on Saturday afternoon and, if you believe the NFL oddsmakers, the 49ers will lose the game. San Francisco is a three-point home underdog and most pundits are predicting New Orleans will take care of business.

But the 49ers are indeed capable of winning. They were victorious in 13 of their 16 regular season games and they've established a dominant defense that now faces its biggest test -- Drew Brees and the Saints offense.

SB Nation’s 49ers blog, Niners Nation, has a run down on the keys to the game for San Francisco and one of them jumped out at me -- turnovers. The 49ers are a whopping +28 in the turnover category this year, which is tops in the league.

You can map out keys to every game in the NFL every year and you’re going to see one constant -- turnovers. It’s one of the most important stats of the game and the 49ers are one of the league’s best in that category.

The Saints have plenty of reasons they should win this game but they won’t do it with multiple turnovers against this 49ers defense.

For more on the 49ers, check out Niners Nation and for the Saints check out Canal Street Chronicles. Here’s a look at the complete 2012 NFL playoffs schedule.
