NFC Divisional Playoffs: Giants Know They Can Hang With Packers

The New York Giants will travel to Green Bay to face the Packers in the NFC divisional playoffs on Sunday and they should have some confidence heading into the game because they already know they can hang with the Packers. The two teams met late in the season and the Giants nearly prevailed before Green Bay was able to hang on, 38-35.

The idea that this game is a rematch is one of the story lines and Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was asked about the confidence his team has knowing they've played well against Green Bay before.

“It certainly gives us confidence in the fact that we went back and forth with them. It wasn’t by any means a perfect game. They had the ball at the end of the game for example and it was a high-scoring affair,” Coughlin said. “From the standpoint of having played against the world champions at home and done such a reasonable job but we all know what the challenges are going forward as well.”

As everyone has been reminded by now, the Giants nearly upset the then-undefeated New England Patriots in the regular season finale before coming back to beat them in the 2007 Super Bowl. A similar scenario is playing out with the Packers -- if they can beat them on Sunday.
