Jay Gruden, Bengals Agree On Contract Extension, According To Report

Jay Gruden was reportedly a candidate for at least one head coaching job but the Bengals have given him a raise and a contract extension to keep him in Cincinnati.

Jay Gruden, the Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator, has been a rising star around the NFL. After his work with Andy Dalton and the Bengals offense this year, Gruden was reportedly a candidate for at least one open head coaching job but he decided not to interview.

And now we find out why -- the Bengals gave him a raise and a contract extension. WKMG in Orlando reports that Gruden received a three-year extension worth $3.6 million, which will double his first year salary with the Bengals.

This is clearly a good move for both sides. While Gruden had opportunities elsewhere, he stayed loyal to the Bengals, which means he’ll be working with Dalton again. And in return he’s received a reward from the team -- more money and thus more security.

The Bengals look like a team on the rise after making the playoffs this year thanks to a strong year behind Dalton and rookie WR A.J. Green.
