The San Francisco 49ers' miserable offense is doing almost nothing against the New Orleans Saints, and yet the Niners are still leading the Saints 20-17 in the fourth quarter. The Niners can probably look to Andy Lee for a reason why: their Pro Bowl punter has made it very difficult for New Orleans by pinning the Saints deep all day.
Saints Vs. 49ers: Andy Lee’s Punting Leg Getting Workout
Lee has punted eight times for 396 yards, or an impressive 49.5-yard average. That’s slightly less than his average for the 2011 season — 50.9 yards per punt — but has been plenty for San Francisco, which is somehow not losing any field position battles despite an offense that has crossed midfield once since the first quarter.
If the Niners hang on and win this one, the defense and special teamers that have forced five turnovers will get most of the credit. But Lee deserves some of his own.
