The Indianapolis Colts fired Jim Caldwell on Tuesday and their search for a new head coach has begun. One of the candidates for the Colts position is New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., according to a report by ProFootballTalk.com

Carmichael has been the Saints offensive coordinator the past three seasons, but did not actually call plays until recently when Sean Payton injured his leg in a sideline accident that forced Payton into the coaching box for much of the season. Carmichael called the Saints offense from the mid-way point of the season all the way through the playoffs.
In addition to Carmichael, the Colts have requested and received permission to speak with Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

Interviewing Gray will satisfy the Rooney Rule requirement for the Colts, but he's also known as a secondary coach guru, which is something the Colts desperately need. Gray worked under Gregg Williams with the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins. Gray has been the Titans defensive coordinator for the past year.
