Raheem Morris Being Evaluated By Tampa Bay Bucs After Another Loss

Raheem Morris wasn't able to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a playoff berth in his third season at the helm of the team. Morris's team regressed quite a bit, actually, forcing the front office to evaluate whether or not he'll be fired following their 4-12 season.

Morris has the backing of some of the Bucs’ top veterans, but CBS Sports’ Mike Freeman wrote late Sunday night that the team is still looking into any ill effects that would be brought on by not bringing Morris back for a fourth season.

Representatives of Tampa Bay Buccaneers ownership spent part of Sunday night and Monday morning speaking to players and others throughout the organization about coach Raheem Morris, according to an agent who represents one of the Buccaneers players.

[...]

Actually, one sentiment is beginning to (slightly). Ownership doesn’t truly want to fire Morris but feel they may not have a choice. The team has lost 10 straight games and there’s little question Morris has lost the locker room. Bucs ownership, I’m also told, is extremely concerned about the effect bringing Morris back will have on ticket sales for next season.

The day after the final day of the regular season -- known as Black Monday in NFL coaching circles -- is usually when teams decide the status of their head coaches for the following season. Freeman’s article makes it seem likely that Morris probably won’t learn his status quite that soon, but a decision seems to be looming regardless.
