Mike Mularkey To Be Interviewed By Jacksonville Jaguars For Head Coaching Position, According To Report

The Jacksonville Jaguars have asked the Atlanta Falcons if they can interview offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for their head coaching vacancy. Mularkey’s last head coaching job came with the Buffalo Bills in 2005.

The Jacksonville Jaguars ended their season on Sunday, but the front office went right back to work on Monday morning as they attempt to fill their head coaching position. The first candidate announced for the job is Mike Mularkey, the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons.

Mularkey hasn't been a head coach in the league since a two-year stint with the Buffalo Bills that ended in 2005, but after leading Matt Ryan and Co. the past few season, the Jaguars have apparently decided that he's ready for another head coaching position. The NFL Network's Jason La Canfora first reported the news. The Falcons made the playoffs so it isn't likely that Mularkey will interview anytime soon, but he's obviously on the Jacksonville radar.

Mularkey's best known for his work with tight ends, the position he played during an eight-year NFL career split between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsbrugh Steelers, but his reputation has improved to be more of an all-around offensive leader after three separate stints in the NFL as an offensive coordinator.
