Ben Roethlisberger Settles Civil Suit Alleging Rape

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger settled his Lake Tahoe civil lawsuit with a hotel employee who accused him of sexual assault.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, his lawyers, and the Lake Tahoe hotel-casino woman who accused him of sexual assault settled their civil lawsuit on Friday. "The matter has been resolved and I have no further comment," the woman's lawyer, Cal Dunlap, told The Associated Press. The settlement also dismisses a claim against the Harrah's employees that the woman accused of covering up the alleged sexual assault in July of 2008.

The Nevada Supreme Court had ruled against the two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback’s request in August to have the case moved from Reno to Carson City because it was closer to where the alleged incident had occurred at Harrah’s in Stateline.

The woman was a VIP casino hostess at Harrah’s when she said Roethlisberger allegedly lured her to his room under the pretense of fixing his television. Roethlisberger was in town at the time to play in a celebrity golf tournament.

Roethlisberger denied the allegations.

The original lawsuit saw the women file for a minimum of $440,000 in damages from Roethlisberger and a minimum of $50,000 in damages from Harrah’s. There was also an unspecified amount filed for punitive damages. Ben Roethlisberger and his lawyer declined to comment on the matter and the terms of the settlement have not been made public.
