In the last week various reports have indicated that the Cleveland Browns top offensive coordinator targets were Mike Sherman and Brad Childress. With Sherman headed to Miami to become the Dolphins offensive coordinator, Childress is expected to join the Browns.
Brad Childress Expected To Join Cleveland Browns Coaching Staff
The Browns are expected to name Brad Childress, former Vikings head coach, their new offensive coordinator.
Childress is best known as the former Minnesota head coach who took the Vikings to the NFC Championship game two years ago.
The connection between Childress and Pat Shurmer dates back to their days in Philadelphia together. Childress held the position of quarterbacks coach for the Eagles from 1999-2002 before becoming the offensive coordinator and Shurmer followed Childress as the Eagles quarterbacks coach.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer has reported that the deal could become official shortly.
Childress has quite a bit of work to do on the Browns offense. They’re coming off of a season in which they ranked 30th in points scored and 29th in yards. The Browns hold the fourth overall pick and some wonder if they’ll move up to secure Baylor QB Robert Griffin III.
