AFC Wild Card 2012: Steelers Need To Replace Rashard Mendenhall

The Pittsburgh Steelers will attempt to make a return visit to the Super Bowl and they'll have to do it without RB Rashard Mendenhall, who was placed on injured reserve after tearing his ACL. It's disappointing news for the Steelers but it won't significantly hinder them from making a deep playoff run.

The Steelers will need to replace Mendenhall's production against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild Card game and SB Nation's Behind The Steel Curtain has the word on what they'll likely do.

With this news in hand, the Steelers will likely keep Isaac Redman as their featured back, and work in Mewelde Moore (if healthy) and rookie John Clay. Moore has missed the last two games with a knee injury of his own, but fortunately for the Steelers, was not placed on Injured Reserve.

The Steelers are one of the best teams in the NFL and rarely can one player significantly alter their fortunes. I suspect that’ll be the case with Mendenhall, who ends the season with 928 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

Check out Behind The Steel Curtain for the latest on the Steelers and Mile High Report for the latest on the Broncos, and head on over to the SBNation NFL news hub for everything you need to know about the 2012 playoffs.
