The Philadelphia Eagles plan to keep Juan Castillo as their defensive coordinator according to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Castillo took a lot of heat from Eagles fans during his first season as the defensive coordinator, taking the position after having never called defense before and primarily working on the offensive side of the ball during his career in the NFL.
Juan Castillo Will Remain Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Coordinator
Despite taking a lot of heat from Philadelphia Eagles fans, Juan Castillo will remain as the Eagles defensive coordinator according to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The decision to keep Castillo as defensive coordinator ends weeks of uncertainty over his future. Reid obviously decided that the final four games of the season in which the defense showed improvement was enough to keep Castillo in charge of the unit.
There have been reports, since confirmed to The Inquirer, that the Eagles had shown interest in bringing former assistant Steve Spagnuolo back to run the defense. But Spagnuolo chose to take the defensive coordinator job with New Orleans.
Despite the criticism from fans, the Eagles defense finished the 2011 season ranked eighth in overall defense under Castillo and give up just over 20 points per game.
