The New York Jets locker room was not the place to be after a season-ending loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but the reports of bad attitudes after the game were a long time in coming. Rookie quarterback Greg McElroy recently appeared on the radio on 97.3 The Zone and indicted the entire locker room (via ProFootballTalk):
Jets Locker Room Filled With ‘Extremely Selfish Individuals,’ Says QB Greg McElroy
New York Jets quarterback Greg McElroy has seen the selfish individuals in the New York Jets locker room but hopes to see things change in 2012.
“It’s definitely not a fun place to be, I can assure you,” McElroy said of the Jets’ locker room. “It’s the first time I’ve ever been around extremely selfish individuals. [...] But there were people within our locker room that didn’t care whether we won or lost as long as they got theirs [...]
McElroy never went on to identify the players, but, as ProFootballTalk points out, this was in response to a question about whether receiver Santonio Holmes was a bad influence on the locker room. While we can't directly draw a line between McElroy's comments and Holmes, we can conjecture that Holmes is one of those selfish individuals. One of Holmes' teammates did accuse Holmes of quitting on the team during the stretch run of the season.
McElroy expects the team to rebound in 2012, but will we see a removal of the selfish players on the team?
