Patriots And Chiefs Want To Talk With Josh McDaniels, According To Report

Both the Patriots and Chiefs have reached out to the Rams seeking permission to speak with Josh McDaniels, according to a report.

The St. Louis Rams fired Billy Devaney as GM and Steve Spagnuolo as head coach along with the rest of their staffs except one. Josh McDaniels, who is under contract through 2012, was not part of the group that was fired. He remains in St. Louis but the Rams have said they won't hold him to his contract if he wants to leave.

So that means he could be on the move. And two of the teams reportedly showing early interest are the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that each of those teams have reached out to the Rams seeking permission to talk with McDaniels.

The Patriots could be looking at him as offensive coordinator. He was in New England before taking the Broncos job in 2009. The Chiefs could also be looking at him for an offensive coordinator role. Since that would be a lateral move, the Rams would have to grant permission to the Patriots and Chiefs to speak with McDaniels but it's believed that they will.

The Patriots are losing Bill O’Brien to the head coaching job at Penn State. It’s believed that Bill Muir, the Chiefs offensive coordinator last season, could retire.
