Bengals Vs. Texans 2012: Cincy Defense Stuffs Houston; Score Remains Tied, 7-7

The Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals remain tied, 7-7, early in the second quarter and the Houston offense has now punted on three of their first four drives of the game. The Texans scored on their third drive of the game largely thanks to Arian Foster but the Bengals defensive line was able to step up and push the Texans into a three-and-out on their latest drive.

Texans quarterback T.J. Yates was dropped to the ground on first down, Foster was limited to a four-yard gain on second down and the Bengals defensive line pressured Yates into an incompletion on third down.

Most people don’t realize how good Cincinnati’s defensive line is but they’ll start to get some recognition if they can stop Foster and the Texans rushing attack consistently. So far, Foster is winning with 51 yards on eight carries early in the second quarter. Yates is 2-of-6 passing for 41 yards so they’ll be probably be leaning on Foster.

Neither team is establishing any dominance. The key for both teams moving forward will be establishing some sort of momentum (and, in Cincinnati’s case, not missing field goals).
