VIDEO: Eli Manning’s Intentional Grounding In End Zone Gives Falcons Safety, 2-0 Lead

The New York Giants' offense has finally made a big play and scored points in their 2012 NFC Wild Card game with the Atlanta Falcons. Those things just benefited the Falcons, is all.

After being backed up to the shadow of their own goalposts, by a penalty and a failed run up the middle, Eli Manning dropped back on a second down and got pressured by James Sanders on a blitz from the weak side. While being wrapped up in the end zone, Manning tried to throw the ball away, as you can see on this video.

That was a bad idea: after a conference of the officials, Manning was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone, and the penalty gave Atlanta a safety and a 2-0 lead.

Atlanta’s bullpen is overworked, though, so the Giants should definitely have some opportunities to rally in the eighth inning.

SB Nation’s NFL bloggers made predictions for Wild Card weekend and here’s a look at the updated NFL playoffs schedule for Sunday. Check out Big Blue View for the latest on the Giants and The Falcoholic for the latest on the Falcons.
