After stalling repeatedly to begin the 2012 NFC Wild Card round's Sunday showcase, the New York Giants have gotten into gear, scoring their first touchdown of the day to take a 7-2 lead. But the surprise, for the Eli Manning-led offense, is that they did that on the ground — and that Eli, at least initially, keyed the surge.

Manning scrambled for 13 yards on a third down to move the chains for the Giants early in their first offensive drive since giving up a safety, and Brandon Jacobs thumped away for much of the rest of the drive, ripping off a 34-yard run that is his longest in more than a year.
Jacobs also converted a fourth and inches that allowed Manning to find Hakeem Nicks on a short touchdown pass at the end of the drive. The Giants had 69 rushing yards on the drive, and Jacobs has 48 in the game.
