Falcons Vs. Giants 2012: We Have A Defensive NFC Wild Card Game

We figured the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants would play a close game and through one half we're being proven right. The Giants lead the Falcons, 7-2, in what was a first half to forger. Eli Manning was hit with an intentional grounding call in the end zone, which is a safety, and the Brandon Jacobs had a 34-yard run en route to a scoring drive for the Giants.

There’s no other way to put it -- this is an ugly game. Both team’s defenses are playing well and creating pressure while the offenses haven’t been consistent.

Matt Ryan enters halftime with just 89 yards passing and Manning with just 60 yards. Julio Jones is the lone highlight for Atlanta as he has four receptions for 49 yards. The Giants top player through one half has been Jacobs, who has 48 yards on seven carries.

Looking ahead to the second half...I’m leaning towards the Giants, especially if it’s a close game decided in the final minutes. New York has scored the third most points in the league in the final two minutes of each half and Eli Manning and Co. have been in big playoff games before (and won). The Falcons, for their part, have done nothing to make me think they can score on the Giants.

SB Nation’s NFL bloggers made predictions for Wild Card weekend and here’s a look at the updated NFL playoffs schedule for Sunday. Check out Big Blue View for the latest on the Giants and The Falcoholic for the latest on the Falcons.
