Romeo Crennel To Be Named Chiefs Head Coach At Monday Press Conference

The Kansas City Chiefs have found their man. Romeo Crennel, KC's interim coach after Todd Haley was fired, is expected to be named the full-time head coach at a 2:00 p.m. (ET) press conference at the Chiefs complex.

ESPN reported over the weekend that Crennel was expected to be named the head coach.

Crennel, 64, has been the favorite for the Chiefs full-time job for some time. He led the team to a 2-1 record in the three games after Haley was fired, including victories over two playoff teams -- the previously undefeated Green Bay Packers in Week 15 and the Denver Broncos in Week 17.

The Chiefs were connected to a couple of other names during the coach-hunting process, including free agent coach Jeff Fisher and Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, both of whom interviewed with the Chiefs.

In the end, though, Crennel made the most sense. He coordinated the Chiefs defense the last two seasons and they’ve shown vast improvement in his time so Crennel staying in KC is good news for the defense. It’s unclear who the Chiefs will hire as defensive coordinator (if they hire one) or even offensive coordinator, where incumbent Bill Muir could end up retiring.
