Jahvid Best injury update: Showing no concussion symptoms, fantasy back could return in Week 7

Almost a year after he last played, Best might finally return to the field in a week. We break down the fantasy implications.

This Tuesday will be the one-year anniversary since Jahvid Best last played in the NFL, since he suffered a concussion that threatened his career and has kept him off of the field. It now appears, according to Michael Lombardi on the NFL Network, that Best could be just a week away from suiting up again for the Detroit Lions.

Best’s injury lingered for weeks last season until the team finally put him on Injured Reserve. He has started this season on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list but will be eligible to come off of that list after this game. It is expected that since he is not showing anymore symptoms from the head injury, that he will finally get to play again.

Detroit plays the Chicago Bears in Week 7.

Fantasy Take: I grabbed Best on Tuesday. He was one of the best dual-threat running backs in the NFL last season, he’s explosive, and he averaged 112.8 total yards per game. The Lions miss him too.

Detroit started last season 5-0. Since Best went out, the team that seemed to be breaking out has gone 6-9. Detroit has not found a rhythm with Mikel Leshoure or Kevin Smith this season and Best could immediately become the best back on their team and diversify the offense in a way that's really holding them back right now. Keep monitoring the situation, but if Best is available in your league, I would pick him up.

He could give your opponents a real headache.
