Packers vs. Texans: 3 questions before Sunday Night Football

The NFL’s best team is in Houston, not Green Bay.

Ed Mulholland-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

If you had to pick before the season which team -- the Packers or Texans -- would be undefeated and which team would be under .500, you'd probably have the Packers as the undefeated team. Winners of 36 games over the last three years, that's the obvious choice.

But here we stand in Week 6 and the Texans, not the Packers, are unbeaten. Green Bay is under .500 at 2-3 and looking to get back on track.

This game features one team we thought would be much better than they are and another team that looks like the best team in the NFL right now.

Which QB will be elite on Sunday night?

We know Aaron Rodgers is an elite quarterback. He's proven that. Matt Schaub isn't quite there yet but he's making a strong case this year as he leads the Texans into their sixth consecutive game without a loss. What really matters is which quarterback plays elite on Sunday night.

Rodgers is completing over 68 percent of his passes -- a very good number -- with 10 touchdowns to four interceptions. Schaub is completing nearly 64 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns to two interceptions.

The difference between the two is that Schaub has a running game so good that he doesn’t need to be the star of the team. Look for Schaub to be as efficient as always aided by one of the league’s best running attacks.

Can Green Bay rebound?

Who had Green Bay at 2-3 after five games? Anyone? Anyone?

The Packers have lost games to the 49ers, Seahawks and Colts. Their offense isn't as explosive as it used to be in the past, ranking 18th in the league with 22 points per game. They've yet to crack 30 points in a game this season. This is the same team that last year averaged 35 points per game and topped 30 points 11 times.

You can win being the 18th ranked offense in the league but this is not Green Bay’s game. This isn’t how they’ve won 15, 10 and 11 games the past three years. I’ll be watching to see if the Packers offense can get back to the level they used to be at.

Who can win the turnover battle?

Turnovers are arguably the most important statistic in every game so this question could be rinsed and repeated for every game every week. They’re that important.

The Texans are one of the best teams in the league at winning the turnover battle, sitting at plus-eight through five games. The Packers are minus-one through their first five games.

Toppling the Texans will come down to turnovers. And it’s not just creating them. It’s capitalizing off them and putting points on the board. Houston is a top five offense so if Green Bay has any hopes of putting up enough points to beat them they’ll need to not only win the turnover battle but flip those interceptions and fumbles into points.
