Brandon Saine’s knee injury ‘significant,’ but little change in fantasy value for Packers backfield

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy called the knee injury suffered in Week 6 by running back Brandon Saine “significant.” We break down the fantasy implications.

The knee injury suffered by running back Brandon Saine in Sunday night's win over the Houston Texas is "significant," Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after the game. Saine, who was the team's No. 3 running back following the injury to starter Cedric Benson, was injured covering a kickoff in the third quarter.

Saine's injury leaves Green Bay with Alex Green, James Starks and John Kuhn at running back heading into Sunday's game with the St. Louis Rams. Green was the team's leading rusher against Houston with 65 yards on 22 carries.

Fantasy Impact: The injury doesn’t change much in terms of fantasy value in Green Bay’s backfield, as Green appears to be the player to own going forward after getting 22 carries on Sunday night. There is speculation that Saine could be done for the season and that would leave the Packers without a lot of depth at running back.

Fantasy owners should monitor this in case Green Bay decides to add a veteran who could take some carries from Green or Starks later in the season.
