Eric Decker: Broncos need a fast start against Chargers

Denver Broncos receiver Eric Decker says that eliminating mistakes will help his team get off to better starts.

Eric Decker believes that his Denver Broncos have shot themselves in the foot early in games, and it's a big reason why they find themselves with a disappointing 2-3 record so far. The wide receiver told Denver's 102.3 ESPN station that getting off to a fast start is what the Broncos want to do against the San Diego Chargers on Monday night.

Said Decker, according to an interview transcribed by Sports Radio Interviews:

“I think the last couple of weeks, not the Oakland game, but the other games, we started slow and we were always playing catch up. That’s tough in this league to do when you are playing offenses and you gotta try to play catch up.”

It's not as if the Peyton Manning-led offense has been ineffective. Denver is the NFL's sixth-most productive passing offense and hasn't scored less than 21 points in a game this year. They have close losses to the Houston Texans, New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.

Decker added that many drives, especially early ones, have been killed by turnovers. He said that a 7-0 lead rather than a turnover to end a long drive could have changed the complexion of the game in any of Denver’s three losses.
