The Buffalo Bills have re-signed free agent linebacker/defensive end Shawne Merriman, according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com. Buffalo brought Merriman in for a look on Monday and were pleased enough with what they saw to bring back the 28-year-old defensive piece. He was originally cut by the Bills on Aug. 20.

Merriman had been projected to have a bounce back season after only playing in five games with the Bills in 2011 (he recorded nine tackles and one sack over that span). However, he never had a chance to even attempt such a feat as the team cut him before the start of the season.
Claimed off waivers by the Bills on Nov. 6, 2010 from the San Diego Chargers, Merriman sustained an Achilles injury during his first practice with the team on Nov. 10, effectively ending his season. In the 2011 season, Merriman suffered another Achilles injury, which once again forced a premature end to his year.
