Kevin Kolb injury: Cardinals QB out 6 weeks or longer, according to report

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb will be out at least six weeks after suffering rib and chest injuries against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Arizona Cardinals will be without quarterback Kevin Kolb for at least six weeks due to rib and chest injuries suffered Sunday in a 19-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills, according to Jason La Canfora. Several of Kolb's ribs separated from his sternum and he also suffered a sprained sternoclavicular joint while being tackled and falling on top of the football.

It was first reported that Kolb would miss at least this week's game at the Minnesota Vikings, but it now appears former starting quarterback John Skelton will have a longer opportunity at leading an offense that is 28th in both passing and rushing yards per game.

Now with a 4-2 record, Arizona has thus far avoided a potential quarterback controversy, but that’s only because both Kolb and Skelton have been injured behind a struggling offensive line.

Skelton left the Cardinals’ Week 1 game after spraining his ankle on a hit, before Kolb led the team on a game-winning drive and a 4-1 start to the season. Kolb now leaves only a few weeks after Skelton returned to practice. Kolb was sacked five times by the Bills on Sunday, and Skelton replaced him by going 2-of-10 for 45 yards and an interception.

Kolb has thrown for 1,169 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions this year.
