Terrell Suggs added to Ravens active roster

The Ravens activated Terrell Suggs on Saturday, providing a huge boost to a banged-up defense heading into a Week 7 AFC clash with the Texans.

The Baltimore Ravens activated Terrell Suggs on Saturday, and the outside linebacker will likely make his return on Sunday against the Texans. Suggs suffered a torn Achilles in late April, and it was initially expected that he would miss most of or the entire 2012 NFL season. But word started surfacing out of Baltimore that the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year might be ready to go for the Week 7 matchup against the Texans, and Baltimore's roster move would confirm that. Suggs had been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since late August, but he made his return to practice this week.

It's a miraculously speedy recovery, and Suggs's return will boost a defense dealing with season-ending injuries to Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb. Veteran safety Ed Reed is also dealing with a torn labrum, and star defensive tackle Haloti Ngata has an injured knee. Baltimore is 5-1, one of only two teams above .500 in the AFC. But despite their impressive record, the injuries on the defense had dampened optimism as the season hits the mid point. Even if he's limited off the bat, Suggs is an unexpectedly huge addition.

In order to make room for Suggs on the roster, the Ravens released rush linebacker Sergio Kindle.
