Terrell Suggs injury: Ravens LB will be activated from PUP list

The Baltimore Ravens will activate Terrell Suggs this week from the physically unable to perform list, allowing him to practice with the team for the first time since partially tearing his Achilles tendon in April.

The Baltimore Ravens will activate reigning NFL defensive player of the year Terrell Suggs this week, allowing him to return to practice after an offseason Achilles injury.

Suggs partially tore his Achilles tendon in April and has not played or practiced since. Thanks to a change in rules regarding the Physically Unable to Perform list, the team was allowed to start Suggs on that list and activate him after six weeks. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that the Ravens will do so either Tuesday or Wednesday, but that they will be cautious and his return to the practice field will be limited. It’s unclear when Suggs will be able to play.

The Ravens' defense has suffered some major blows this past week, with injuries to Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb prematurely ending their seasons. Suggs' return to the field -- whenever it happens -- will be needed if the Ravens hope to continue their strong start to the year. The plus side is that these injuries will likely open up a spot on the active roster for Suggs, meaning the team won't have to cut players to make way for him.
