Cowboys vs. Panthers final score: Cowboys escape with 19-14 victory

In a back-and-forth game throughout, the Dallas Cowboys came away with a 19-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

US PRESSWIRE

Dan Bailey knocked in what proved to be the game-winning field goal with 3:28 remaining in the game, as the Dallas Cowboys came from behind to beat the Carolina Panthers, 19-14 on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.

In a back-and-forth game throughout, the Panthers took the lead just under four minutes into the final quarter when Mike Tolbert scampered two yards over the goal line for a touchdown to tie it and Justin Medlock converted the extra point to put Carolina ahead 14-13.

But strong defense from Dallas, followed by a drive that brought the ball all the way to the Carolina 10, led to the game-winning field goal from Bailey.

Bailey hit all four field goals he attempted on the day, including a 38-yard try with under a minute to go to provide the final margin.

Overall, the Cowboys were led by quarterback Tony Romo, who completed 24 passes for 227 yards. Felix Jones was Dallas's leading rusher, going 44 yards on 14 carries. Miles Austin had five receptions for 97 yards.

For the Panthers, Cam Newton led the team with 64 yards rushing. He also had 19 completions, as the Panthers found 189 of their 301 yards through the air.

With the win, Dallas gets back to .500 at 3-3, while the Panthers drop to 1-5.

Fantasy studs/duds: This wasn’t a game where players were going to jump off the stat sheet, but Jones had a nice game for the Cowboys with his game-high 97 yards receiving on five catches. This was also not one for the highlight reel on the ground, as Newton’s 64 yards made hi the game’s leading rusher.

Odds/Gambling: The Cowboys were 2½-point favorites going into the game and won by five, so yes, they covered. The under on this game was 45, with the teams combining for 33 points.

Injury info: Phil Costa hurt his ankle in the second quarter for the Cowboys and did not return.

Next team on the schedule: Dallas returns home next week to welcome the New York Giants to Cowboys Stadium. Carolina visits Chicago next Sunday for a 1 p.m. game with the Bears.

The Carolina Panthers failed to win coming off their bye Week, losing to the Dallas Cowboys, 19-14, in Week 7. Ron Rivera’s squad drops to 1-5, and James Dator from Cat Scratch Reader weighs in on the loss:
