Eagles DE Brandon Graham piles on Juan Castillo

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham blamed former defensive coordinator Juan Castillo’s inability to make late-game adjustments for the Eagles’ fourth-quarter collapses.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham blamed former defensive coordinator Juan Castillo for the Eagles numerous fourth-quarter collapses on Wednesday. Graham complained about Castillo's inability or unwillingness to make last-game adjustments.

Graham said the Eagles would practice many different looks under Castillo, but only run one thing on game days. Graham says things will be different with new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Graham reflected on how things have already changed under Bowles:

“That’s what he talked about, not being predictable in the fourth quarter, because by the fourth quarter everybody knows what we’re going to do, and that’s how we get beat,”

Since Castillo became the Eagles’ defensive coordinator at the start of the 2011 season, Philadelphia led in 16 out of 22 games going into the fourth quarter. Under Castillo, the Eagles went just 10-6 in the 16 games in which they held a fourth quarter lead. In the 10 years prior to Castillo taking over the defense, Philadelphia was 88-11 in those situations.

The 3-3 Eagles will play their first game with Bowles as their defensive coordinator on Sunday, Oct. 28 when they host the undefeated Atlanta Falcons at 1:00 p.m. ET.
