Dolphins C Mike Pouncey responds to Aaron Maybin

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey isn’t happy about New York Jets linebacker Aaron Maybin making bold statements. So Pouncey made a few of his own.

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey had some choice words Jets linebacker Aaron Maybin, who Pouncey called Maybin "one of the biggest busts in NFL history" during an interview on ESPN Radio New York with Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco.

The Jets' linebacker has suggested that they want to take out Dolphins running back Reggie Bush in their matchup on Sunday. So allow the exchange of pleasantries to ensue. Pouncey has called Maybin "a joke" and says he doesn't understand an unproven player stepping out and making claims of taking out the starting running back.

Pouncey’s response to that:

“Yeah, we get very angry. And I can tell you one thing, it’s going to be a physical game. And hearing that from a guy that was just known last year as one of the biggest busts in NFL history, to open up his mouth and say he’s going to hurt our starting running back? No, we’re not going to have that. So it’ll be a physical game.”

Pouncey also said the Dolphins are better than the Jets because of their ability to run the ball so effectively, and that opposing defenses have to respect Ryan Tannehill and the threat of throwing it down field, which makes it more difficult to stack the box against them.

Here’s more from the Pouncey interview:

“We watched the film. We ran the ball terrific the first time we played them. We’re expecting to do the same thing this time. Last game we let it get away from us, they made one more play than we did. But we’re expecting a whole different outcome this week. We put our mindset as this is the biggest game of the year for us and we have to go out there and play like it.”
