Russell Wilson says Seahawks ready for the Lions

Russell Wilson will have probably his best chance of the season to put up big numbers when the Seahawks take on the Lions this weekend.

Joe Nicholson-US PRESSWIRE

Russell Wilson has had a solid rookie season. Through seven games he has completed 59.4% of his passes for 1,230 yards and has eight touchdowns to seven interceptions. That isn't going to make anyone say "wow", but as a rookie on a team with limited talent on offense, it is respectable. So is the Seattle Seahawks' 4-3 record, which has them one game out of first place in the NFC West.

Wilson has a chance to be better than decent this weekend, though. The Seahawks are taking on the Lions, who have a slew of injuries on defense. DeAndre Levy, Jacob Lacey and Amari Spievey all missed practice on Thursday, while Bill Bentley, Louis Delmas, Stephen Tulloch and Corey Williams were all limited. That is a banged up Lions defense, especially in the secondary and in an interview with 710 ESPN in Seattle, Wilson talked about the opportunity he has against that Lions defense.

The biggest opportunity, obviously, is their secondary, just because they’ve had some guys in and out with injuries and everything, which is unfortunate for them. The key is getting the ball out on time, throwing an accurate football so our guys can make some plays. Obviously they have a tremendous, tremendous defensive line; their linebackers are playing at a high level. And they’ve made some plays in the defensive secondary as well.

Wilson said the right things about the Lions still being tough, but he knows that they are hurt and he knows he will have his chances. Converting them will be a whole other thing, but the chances will at least be there and Wilson can go from solid to exception, at least for one day.
