Failure to report Ed Reed injury costs the Ravens $20,000

Baltimore was fined by the NFL for leaving its star safety off the injury report.

Evan Habeeb-US PRESSWIRE

The Baltimore Ravens have been fined $20,000 by the NFL for failing to list safety Ed Reed on their injury report. Reed has a torn labrum in one of his shoulders, and while he has been fully participating in practice, the NFL nonetheless considered his omission from the injury report a violation of league procedures.

A portion of the NFL’s injury policy states that “all players with significant or noteworthy injuries must be listed on the report, even if the player takes all reps in practice, and even if the team is certain that he will play in the upcoming game.”

Reed first acknowledged the injury on Oct. 17 and admitted it could be affecting his play, but he has been able to start every game for Baltimore this season. Reed has 30 tackles and two interceptions through seven games.

The Ravens are off in Week 8 and return to the field against the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 4.
