Chargers vs. Browns, Week 8: Cleveland defense seals 7-6 win over San Diego

Cleveland had to come up with a stop in the final two minutes to beat the Chargers on Sunday.

The Cleveland Browns defeated the San Diego Chargers 7-6 on Sunday, and it was the Browns' defense that had to make a play toward the end of the fourth quarter in order to preserve the victory. The Chargers had moved the ball out near midfield with less than two minutes on the clock, but the Browns stepped up to halt San Diego there, forcing four straight incompletions. The last of those came thanks to cornerback Buster Skrine, who tipped the pass.

While discussing that play after the game, SB Nation’s Dawgs By Nature noted that the tipped pass may have saved the game for Cleveland. By holding, the Browns picked up their first win since new owner Jimmy Haslam took over the franchise.

If Skrine doesn’t make the tip, the pass might have been completed in field goal range. A couple of knees later, the Browns officially improved to 2-6 on the season, picking up their first win in the Jimmy Haslam era.

The Browns' defense limited Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers to just 154 yards passing, and San Diego managed just 265 total yards of offense.

The Browns host the Baltimore Ravens next week.
