Raiders vs. Chiefs 2012: Oakland’s defense steps up in 26-16 win

SB Nation’s Raiders blog, Silver and Black Pride, was pleased with the way Oakland’s defense stepped up against Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs’ rushing attack.

The Oakland Raiders picked up their third win of the season on Sunday with a commanding 26-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Oakland started off a bit slow on offense, but their defense was strong from the start of the game.

Going up against a solid Kansas City rushing attack, SB Nation's Raiders blog, Silver and Black Pride, was impressed the way the defense slowed down Jamaal Charles, Peyton Hillis and others. For a team that ranked third in the NFL with an average of 164 yards on the ground each week, the Raiders held the Chiefs to just 102 yards on 22 carries.

McFaddens’s counterpart, Jamaal Charles, was on lockdown by the Raiders’ run defense. He finished with five carries for four yards. He and Peyton Hillis combined for nine carries for 27 yards. Most of the Chiefs’ 102 total rushing yards came on end-around plays and quarterback scrambles.

Oakland will enjoy their win briefly before starting to prepare for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9. A win would move the Raiders to .500 this season and keeps them in the hunt for a playoff spot in the wide-open AFC. Be sure to head over to Silver and Black Pride to reflect on the team's performance this week and the expectations moving forward.
