Falcons vs. Eagles, Week 8: Philadelphia ‘embarrassed’ after loss

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered an embarrassing 30-17 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, leaving some to speculate whether Michael Vick should be benched.

Coming off of a bye week, the Philadelphia Eagles suffered a disappointing 30-17 loss at home to the Atlanta Falcons. The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-4 on the season, 2.5 games behind the New York Giants in the NFC East.

JasonB of SB Nation’s Eagles blog Bleeding Green Nation did not mince words:

If I had to pick one word to describe the Eagles performance today, “embarrassing” would certainly be one of the favored candidates. In the Eagles’ locker room, it was clearly the word of the afternoon.

Many prominent Eagles used the word embarrassing to describe their performance, and it’s hard to argue with them. The Eagles fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and were never really in the game. For a team as talented as the Eagles, that should never really happen.

Quarterback Michael Vick struggled yet again, and there's been some speculation that coach Andy Reid may bench Vick in favor of Nick Foles. But Bleeding Green Nation's Eliot Shorr-Parks thinks that would be a bad decision:

Reid very well might decide to bench Vick, and listening to the quarterback after the game, Vick almost seems to know it’s coming. But make no mistake about it -- if Reid decided to go to Nick Foles, he is making a big mistake.

Philadelphia's next chance to right the ship comes next Monday night against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints' defense has been porous all season, so the Eagles should have some good scoring opportunities. If they struggle again and lose, it may be hard not to make a change at quarterback.
