AFC East injury report: Ryan Tannehill has no structural damage

Miami’s quarterback is optimistic about playing Sunday; Status of Patriots’ Wes Welker is still up in the air.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill's MRI on Monday did not reveal structural damage to his left knee, according to the Miami Herald.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said Tannehill was “optimistic on the plane” ride home Sunday about playing in this Sunday’s game at Indianapolis, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Tannehill, 24, was just 2-for-5 for 18 yards before leaving Sunday's 30-9 win against the New York Jets. Matt Moore, who lost the battle for the starting quarterback position this preseason, replaced Tannehill and was 11-for-19 for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Tannehill has completed 59 percent of his passes this season, his rookie year, for 1,472 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also thrown six interceptions.

There is no update on New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, who left Sunday's win over the Rams in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Welker twisted his ankle on a catch, left the game and never returned. Welker was asked by the Boston Herald if the ankle was OK and he said after the game, "Yeah, I think so."

Cornerback Kyle Arrington also left Sunday's 45-7 win over the Rams. Arrington, the team's No. 2 cornerback, did not return to the game with a head injury.

The Jets lost running back Joe McKnight during Sunday's game against the Dolphins. McKnight had a sore ankle heading into the game and left after re-aggravating the injury. He did not return to the game.

The Buffalo Bills expect to have Mario Williams back for Sunday's game at Houston, according to ESPN. Williams had surgery to fix a sprained left wrist. On playing Sunday, Williams said: "Oh, I'm definitely, definitely (playing). I'm not missing anything."
