On Tuesday, New England cut veteran linebacker Bobby Carpenter for the second time this season.

The New England Patriots have released linebacker Bobby Carpenter, according to reports (via ESPN Boston's Field Yates).

Carpenter appeared in four games for the Patriots this season, mostly seeing time on special teams. He recorded two tackles on defense, both of which came in New England's 24-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 14. He signed with the Patriots as a free agent in April, but after performing well in camp, he was cut by the team on Sept. 1. He found his way back to New England a few weeks later, re-signing with the Patriots on Oct. 3 after rookie Dont'a Hightower suffered a hamstring injury.

Carpenter, an Ohio State product, previously spent time with the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys. The seventh-year pro has started just 10 games in his career, and has accumulated 167 tackles, 3.5 sacks and an interception during his time in the league.
