Aaron Hernandez injury: Patriots TE likely out for Broncos game

Aaron Hernandez is likely not going to be available for Sunday’s Week 5 matchup with the Denver Broncos due to injury.

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is likely out for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, according to NFL Network correspondent Albert Breer.

Hernandez is still attempting to recover from a low ankle sprain that was sustained in the Week 2 contest against the Arizona Cardinals when wide receiver Julian Edelman rolled on his ankle. After suffering the injury, Hernandez was projected to miss four to six weeks. According to Breer, Hernandez potentially could return in Week 6, which would remain consistent with that timetable.

In an attempt to replace Hernandez, the Patriots signed free agent tight end Kellen Winslow. After participating in two practices and suiting up for Week 3's Sunday night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, Winslow requested and received his outright release. In total, he received $48,529 for four offensive snaps during his time in New England.

The Patriots currently have Daniel Fells and Michael Hoomanawanui listed as the other tight ends behind Rob Gronkowski on the depth chart.
