Broncos’ D.J. Williams suspended 3 more games by NFL

The Broncos linebacker will be suspended for an additional three games following a conviction on a drunk driving charge in August.

The Denver Broncos will be without linebacker D.J. Williams for three additional games, as the nine-year veteran has had his suspension extended by the NFL, according to a report from The Denver Post.

Williams will not be able to return to action until Nov. 12, as the league has added to what began as a six-game suspension. The additional punishment comes as a result of Williams’ conviction on a drunk driving charge in August, his second DWAI (driving while ability impaired) since joining the Broncos in 2004.

The linebacker’s original suspension followed a violation of the NFL’s banned substance policy last year after he provided a “non-human” urine sample in a drug test.

In Williams’ absence, the Broncos have turned to Keith Brooking and Wesley Woodyard at the weak side linebacker position. The team is 2-2 in his absence.

Williams played in 13 games for the Broncos during the 2011 season and had 70 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles on the year.
