Seahawks Vs. Panthers: Seattle wins defensive struggle 16-12

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Carolina Panthers 16-12 on Sunday behind a dominant defensive effort.

Seattle defeated the Carolina Panthers 16-12 on Sunday behind a tremendous defensive effort. The Seahawks held Carolina to just 190 yards of offense, and limited Cam Newton to 141 yards of passing on a 12-29 afternoon.

Russell Wilson threw a pair of interceptions that helped the Panthers keep the game close, but he finished the game 19-25 for 225 yards and a touchdown. Marshawn Lynch chipped in with 85 yards on the ground.

The Seahawks opened the scoring on their first possession of the game, as Steven Hauschka connected on a 22-yard field goal. Hauschka would connect on a 36-yard attempt to double the lead before Justin Medlock put Carolina on the board with a field goal of his own.

Carolina went on top 10-6 early in the second half as Captain Munnerlyn returned an interception 33 yards for the game's first touchdown. Seattle answered when Russell Wilson found Golden Tate over the middle for a 13-yard touchdown strike that put Seattle up 13-10. It would be the only offensive touchdown of the game.

Hauschka added his third field goal on a 44-yard effort to put Seattle up 16-10. Seattle later took a safety when punting from deep in their own end to close the scoring for the game.

Fantasy studs/duds: Anyone with any of the Carolina running backs will probably see their fantasy team struggle. Jonathan Stewart was the only Panther back to rush for over six yards, leading the way with 16 yards on just four carries. SB Nation has all your fantasy football needs covered, so be sure to check it out before setting your lineups for Week 6.

Odds/Gambling: Carolina was a two-point favorite, so it failed to cover the spread. The over/under was set at 42.5 points, so those who took the under are smiling.

Next up: The Seahawks head back to Seattle where they will host Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 14. The Panthers head into their bye week; they'll be in action next on Sunday, Oct. 21, at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
