The sports world, along with the rest of the country, was on hold for most of the early part of the week as the Northeast braced for Hurricane Sandy, one of the biggest natural disasters to hit that part of the country in a long time.
NFL, NFLPA to donate $1 million to Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts
The league and its players pledged money to help aid with rebuilding efforts in the Northeast after this week’s devastating hurricane.

On Thursday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith announced that their organizations would donate $1 million to help with the recovery efforts:
“We are pleased that NFL owners and players have joined together once again to support communities and families impacted by Hurricane Sandy,” said Goodell and Smith in a joint statement. “This contribution on behalf of all 32 clubs and players throughout the league will help the American Red Cross assist people in need in the affected areas. We salute the dedication of those who have been working so hard on the rescue, relief and recovery effort.”
It’s certainly a nice gesture and I’m sure the Red Cross, and all the people they help, will appreciate it.
There will be on-air mentions of the recovery effort, as well as a crawl that will occasionally appear at the bottom of the screen, during the telecast of every NFL game this week.
