Ryan Mathews tweaks ankle in 2nd quarter

Ryan Mathews was favoring his left ankle as he walked off in the second quarter.

Midway through the second quarter of Thursday night's game, Ryan Mathews limped off the field with what appeared to be a left ankle injury. He was spotted having his ankle taped up on the sideline, and then testing it out walking up and down the bench.

Known for injury issues throughout his career, Mathews started out the 2012 season by breaking his collarbone on his first carry in preseason. He's made his way back to the No. 1 role in the Chargers backfield but, if he's forced to miss any action, Ronnie Brown looks to be the first one to benefit.

Mathews has eight carries for just 25 yards on the night so far. He’s made a few good bursts up the middle, though he hasn’t been finding any big holes so far. He made his way back out for the following drive, so that should be a positive sign for his status going forward. His playing time should be closely monitored throughout the night.
