The Pittsburgh Steelers have released rookie defensive tackle Alameda Ta'amu, according to from Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports.

The Steelers have decided to part ways with their former draft selection following the fallout of a messy drunken-driving situation.

Ta’amu, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 Draft after playing his college ball with the Washington Huskies, was arrested last month for a drunken-driving tirade that involved police evasion. After crashing into four park vehicles, Ta’amu attempted to flee police before eventually being taken down in a nearby area.
He was suspended immediately by the Steelers and has yet to play this season.
Ta’amu will now have to find a new team to play for, and it seems likely he will not find a suitor until his criminal case is settled in court. Ta’amu is currently facing a combination of 18 felony, misdemeanor and summary citations, according to this report from ESPN.
The 22-year-old lineman has since apologized for his actions. The Steelers are yet to officially release a statement, although one could come soon.
