Byron Leftwich will be Steelers ‘acting starter’ if Ben Roethlisberger can’t play

Steelers staring quarterback diagnosed with shoulder sprain, forces Leftwich to take over as acting starter

Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Bryon Leftwtich is the team's "acting stater" head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Tuesday after starter Ben Roethlisberger was diagnosed with a shoulder sprain, which he suffered in Monday night's 16-13 overtime victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Roethlisberger is currently listed as "questionable" for the Steelers' Week 11 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. Roethlisberger left Monday's victory in the third quarter after being sandwiched by Chief linebackers Justin Houston and Tamba Hali.

Its still unclear how severe the injury to Roethlisberger’s throwing shoulder is and how long he will be out. An ESPN reports say the injury could be significant.

In the meantime, Pittsburgh will turn to Leftwich who could start his first game since 2009. On Monday, Leftwich helped the Steelers complete their comeback victory by completing 7 of 14 attempts for 73 yards. It was the first time the 10-year veteran saw action since ‘10.
