Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expected to start Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac has learned.
Ben Roethlisberger injury: Steelers reportedly expect QB to play in Week 14
The Steelers quarterback could start Sunday against the Chargers.
Roethlisberger, who has missed the past three weeks with shoulder and chest injuries, will be on the practice field this week, said head coach Mike Tomlin at his weekly press conference, but he said the QB will need to prove he’s healthy enough to start (via Mike Prisuta).
Tomlin said the Steelers will prepare for Week 14 with the mindset that backup Charlie Batch will start. Tomlin did not say whether Roethlisberger would dress as a backup if he's not 100 percent (via Aditi Kinkhabwala).
Earlier in the day, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported a source told him Roethlisberger’s soreness in his shoulder and chest was diminishing.
Without Roethlisberger, the Steelers have complied a 1-2 record including last Sunday's come-from-behind victory, 23-20, over the Baltimore Ravens. Batch threw for 276 yards in the win that snapped a two-game losing streak.
