Ben Roethlisberger injury: Steelers QB improving, status still uncertain

Ben Roethlisberger’s health continues to improve, as he is expected to practice sometime this week. However, it is still unclear whether he will play this Sunday against the Chargers.

The soreness in the shoulder and chest of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is slowly improving, sources have told ESPN's Ed Werder, but its still unclear if the signal caller will return to action Sunday when the Steelers host the San Diego Chargers (1 p.m. ET on CBS).

According to the SB Nation blog Behind the Steel Curtain, head coach Mike Tomlin should address whether or not Roethlisberger, who missed the last three games with shoulder and chest injuries, will practice this week during his Tuesday press conference.

All signs point to Roethlisberger practicing at some point, however, Pittsburgh could be forced to start veteran Charlie Batch for the second straight week.

Batch, 37, helped lead the Steelers to a come-from-behind victory, 23-20, at the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. But the consensus is Pittsburgh would rather have Batch used in a backup role and Roethlisberger start if he can.

In the last three weeks without Roethlisberger, the Steelers have compiled a 1-2 record.
