Jets owner: ‘Anonymous people don’t speak for the team’

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson addresses the anonymous comments made about Tim Tebow.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson addressed the media after practice on Thursday afternoon and stated that the anonymous player who criticized backup quarterback Tim Tebow does not speak for the team.

The New York Daily News published a story on Wednesday that quoted an anonymous defensive starter who stated that Tebow was “terrible.”

Johnson said Thursday that he thinks the player who spoke anonymously is a coward and that if he has something to say, he should step forward and make his voice heard. The owner added that he regularly speaks with players and coaches and doesn’t believe that the rest of the team agrees about Tebow:

“Anybody that’s anonymous has no credibility and anonymous people don’t speak for the New York Jets, they really don’t. I’m out here every day talking to players and coaches, meeting with the coaches and players, and so I think I’m a reasonably good judge.”

Johnson also defended his motives for trading for Tebow and stated that he is displeased with the belief that he acquired the quarterback for the sole purpose of selling personal seat licenses. Tebow has completed 5 of 6 passes this season for 40 yards.
