Bengals vs. Chiefs 2012 game preview: Kansas City tries to actually win a game

Romeo Crennel and his Chiefs should prepare themselves for quite a booing against a tough Bengals team.

On Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Cincinnati Bengals in an AFC contest.

The Chiefs come in losers of six in a row and most likely the worst team in football. Cincinnati is riding the emotion of a huge victory against the New York Giants, and could get back to .500 with a win.

One of the major story lines coming into this game is the “Blackout at Arrowhead”, which many Chiefs fans say they plan to participate in. Usually clad in red, some Kansas City followers will be wearing black to show anger toward Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel still being employed at One Arrowhead Drive.

Banners will also be flying overhead, calling for the aforementioned firing of Pioli.

Meet the Kansas City Chiefs
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Well then, ladies and gentlemen, your 2012 Kansas City Chiefs.

Nothing else needs to be said. Kansas City has shown it's completely incapable of playing a full 60 minutes of football in all three phases. Last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chiefs played solid defense but ultimately were undone by penalties and a horrendous overtime interception courtesy of Matt Cassel.

However, there was some good news in that game for Kansas City; it finally had a lead in regulation.

Meet the Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are a more puzzling team. Cincinnati started out the season relatively well before going completely in the tank against the likes of the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins. At 3-5 and welcoming in the Giants, all appeared lost.

But incredibly, the Bengals were able to dismantle the champs 38-13 at Paul Brown Stadium, giving them life in a very much wide-open AFC playoff picture.

With its next two games against the Chiefs and Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati could get right back into the thick of things.

Local Takes: Kansas City Chiefs
BJ Kissel from Arrowhead Pride says this about the Chiefs’ “dance party” on Monday night:

The guys were having a good time and although the penalty could have been avoided and could have hurt, it didn’t. Because those players who some are chastising for their undisciplined, cocky, ridiculous display, used that same attitude to put the Chiefs in a position to win against one of the top teams in the AFC in their house on Monday night football.

Local Takes: Cincinnati Bengals

Anthony Cosenza from Cincy Jungle says this about the Bengals' excellent return duo of Adam Jones and Brandon Tate:

When you've had a four-game losing streak in a season, it's this aspect of a game that needs to be relied upon and they answered the call last week versus the New York Giants. You can label the two "Thunder and Lightning", "Fire and Ice", or whatever you'd like. The point is that Jones and Tate are helping out this team in a way that we haven't seen in a while.

Prediction

At this point, how can anybody pick the Chiefs to win a football game? It's hard to be confident about the Bengals, who seem to be as consistent as their head coach, but they are clearly the better football team. It's hard to envision a total blowout, but then again, it is Kansas City.

If Cincinnati can just contain Jamaal Charles, it will be able to sleepwalk to a win. The only hope the Chiefs have is Charles going off to the tune of 140 yards, but against the Bengals' defensive front that won't be easy.

The pick: 23-13, Bengals

Odds

The Bengals are favored by three points, according to Oddsshark.

Next Week

Kansas City remains in the unfriendly confines of Arrowhead Stadium to face the Denver Broncos. The Bengals will also be home to host the Raiders.
